Join Middle Child for the opening night of their inaugural exhibition "Haunted Nostalgia: the mall will be closing in 10 minutes...," a solo show by Katie Neece that probes the hazy vision of our failed capitalist aspirations. Her paintings build on our nostalgia for the future we thought was coming — but has instead decayed — within and alongside the American mall. The gallery aims to connect and support Midwest-based artists through collaborative exhibitions and programming.
Started by duo Christina Nafziger (60 Inches from Center) and Abel Sommer Braughton, Middle Child will be housed in Pilsen’s immense Mana Contemporary. The gallery is the newest addition to Chicago’s legacy of artist-run spaces, creating an environment that is intellectually rigorous, playful, and deeply personal. Afterwards, head down the street to Skylark (2149 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608), a legendary artist dive bar known for cheap drinks and the city’s best tater tots.
